Welcome to The Great Wish Restaurant & Guest House at Hikaduwa Beach in Sri Lanka! This could be your place to stay in Sri Lanka. Whether you decide to travel through the country to places like Kandy or Trincomalle, you can rest assured that everything will be safe and secure with us. You won’t need to cart your things from town to town. Just make arrangements with us, and we can secure everything, guide you by cell phone, and be here for you during your trip in Sri Lanka, like family. If you should choose to spend your entire time in Hikaduwa, rest comfortable knowing you are home with us. This may be one of the most secure and relaxed places in Sri Lanka. We respect your lifestyle and your privacy. At the same time, we are family, so you will never feel alone. WELCOME HOME!

We provide rooms for guests with amenities that you just won’t find anywhere else! On the second floor we have beautiful rooms with modern baths for comfort and to ease your transition to Sri Lanka life. A spacious double bed with a mosquito net, a wardrobe, a dressing table with mirror, and plenty of floor space means you will sleep in comfort and there is plenty of room for your friends and family.

Friends and family are what is important here in Sri Lanka. Once you stay with us, we will treat you like good friends and family. There are five star hotels throughout the island with hired security, but here the security is with us, your family in Sri Lanka.

Who are we? We are two brothers who are managing the old and beautiful building that our parents once used as a home and guesthouse. The tradition of guest houses in Sri Lanka goes back to British Colonialism. The best aspects of colonialism remain today, that being the way we treat you as our guests. If you would like a special meal prepared or a cup of tea or coffee in the late hours, it’s no problem. You are at home when you stay with us.

Sri Pala is our friend and chef. He joined us as a guide to prepare the best meals and provide the best service to you. He is kind, gentle, intelligent, and I think you will find him to be a treasured member of your family while staying at The Great Wish Guest House.

About this blog…

It is written by a guest who came and stayed with us. He hopes that you will come and stay at The Great Wish Guest House and make new friends with Saman and Ruwa, the two brothers. They are young, energetic, and ready to help you in any way. The real traditions and hopes of Sri Lanka can be found in the ideals of these two young men. They like music, good food, motorbikes, beaches, friendship, and conversation. My recommendation is to treat them as your brothers and they will treat you the same. The formalities of the colonial past are no longer needed, just honest dialogue and happy times.

Location: On Galle Road, across the street from the Amaya Reef Hotel. You can tell any tri-wheel driver that you need to get to the Amaya Reef Hotel. From the Amaya Reef, (beachside) look across the street to see a second story balcony. The steps are on the left side. A shop is beneath. A Roti shop is next door.

More about Saman and Ruwa!

H. W. Nishantha Saman Kumara and H.W. Samantha Ruwa Kumara are brothers.

Sri Pala is the chef and restaurant manager.

The address to write is:

Samantha Ruwan 077-603-3340

Nishantha Saman Kumara 071-415-9758

Just say you have heard about the guest house and would like to come and stay. You can ask about the price, but I guarantee you they will charge according to the lowest rates in the area, and you will get far more than any five star can hope to provide!

Prices:

(less than you would imagine…30,000 rupees should cover the month, or less than a thousand rupees per day…if tourism is good, you might want to pay more, say about 1,500 – 1,800 rupees per night.) It’s all negotiable..Remember, you are staying with family, so just ask. If you want to stay more than a few days, talk with them about your ideas, they can help you and adjust pricing so you can feel comfortable. It’s not about money, it’s about living and being happy. So come, come, Be Happy!
